Hot tub Unpacking Operation

11 min read

1 Receipt and Packaging Verification

Unpacking the hot tub is a delicate phase that requires attention and method to avoid product damage and ensure proper recognition of any transport anomalies. Operations must be performed carefully, following a precise sequence.

1.1 External Packaging Inspection

Before proceeding with unpacking, perform a thorough visual inspection of the still-intact packaging:

  • Check for absence of breaks, dents, or obvious deformations of the pallet and external protection
  • Verify that the securing straps are intact and properly tightened (where present)
  • Verify that the external plastic film does not have extensive tears
  • Check for absence of significant signs of wetness, stains, or unusual odors
  • Verify the correspondence of data on the label (model, code, recipient)

WARNING: In the presence of obvious packaging damage, DO NOT proceed with complete unpacking. Take detailed photographs and immediately report the anomalies to the carrier and seller. Sign the transport document (delivery note) adding the wording "GOODS RECEIVED WITH RESERVATION FOR INSPECTION" followed by a brief description of the damage found.

1.2 Equipment Needed for Unpacking

Prepare the following equipment before starting operations:

  • Box cutter or utility knife with retractable safety blade
  • Heavy-duty scissors for cutting plastic straps
  • Sturdy work gloves (protection from edges and splinters)
  • Step ladder (for access to upper panels)
  • Soft microfiber cloth for surface cleaning
  • Flashlight or work lamp (for technical compartment inspection)
  • Smartphone or camera (for photographic documentation)

2 Unpacking Procedure

2.1 Phase 1: Removing External Protections

  1. Cut the vertical and horizontal securing straps that fasten the hot tub to the pallet with scissors or wire cutters
  2. Remove the external transparent plastic film starting from top to bottom, being careful not to scratch surfaces with the cutter
  3. Remove any corrugated cardboard or expanded polystyrene protections from corners and edges
  4. Check for any accessories positioned on top of the hot tub (filters, manuals, etc.)

NOTE: Keep all packaging materials for at least 15 days after installation. In case of return or replacement, the hot tub must be repackaged with the original protections. Dispose of materials according to local regulations for sorted waste collection.

2.2 Phase 2: Opening Side Panels

The hot tub is equipped with removable side panels that allow access to the technical compartment where the control box, pumps, heater, and other components are housed. Opening these panels is necessary to facilitate any product movements and for electrical and plumbing connection procedures.

Panel opening procedure (model-specific, always consult the manual):

  1. Identify the removable panel or panels by consulting the enclosed technical manual
  2. Remove the perimeter screws or quick-release fastening systems (clips, snap hooks, brackets) using a Phillips or flathead screwdriver depending on the screw type
  3. Gently lift the panel from bottom to top or extract it laterally depending on the sliding guide
  4. Place the removed panel in a vertical position against a wall or store it in a safe area where it cannot fall or be damaged
  5. Repeat the operation for all necessary access panels

WARNING: Never force the panels. If the panel does not slide out easily, verify that you have removed all screws or locking systems. Some models have screws hidden under plastic caps or gaskets: consult the manual for their exact location.

2.3 Phase 3: Technical Compartment Inspection

With the side panels removed, check the condition of all internal components:

  1. Control Box (electronic control unit): check for absence of damage, detached components, traces of moisture
  2. Hydromassage and filtration pumps: check for absence of leaks, disconnected tubes, mechanical damage
  3. Heater: check integrity of heating element and electrical connections
  4. Pipes and fittings: check for absence of cracks, leaks, loose fittings
  5. Electrical wiring: verify that all connectors are properly inserted and that there are no cut wires or damaged insulation
  6. Filters: verify presence and correct position in the skimmer compartment

WARNING: Take photographs of the technical compartment for documentation and future reference. In case of obvious anomalies (broken components, leaks, cut wires), report immediately to the supplier BEFORE proceeding with filling and operation.

3 Opening Skimmer Compartments and Filter Installation

3.1 Identifying Skimmer Compartments

The skimmer is the filtering compartment located on the upper edge of the hot tub. Its function is to draw in surface water (where most impurities concentrate) and pass it through the filter before it is returned to the tub through the outlet jets.

Skimmer characteristics by model:

  • Position: generally on the side opposite to the hydromassage jets, identified by a removable square or rectangular cover
  • Number: some models have 1 skimmer, other models have 2 (dual skimmer configuration for large tubs)
  • Filter capacity: the skimmer can contain 1 or more cartridge filters depending on the filtration system flow rate

3.2 Procedure for Opening Skimmer and Installing Filters

  1. Locate the skimmer cover on the upper edge of the tub
  2. Lift the cover by pulling it upward (some models have a hinged cover, others completely removable)
  3. Remove any transport protections or plugs inserted in the skimmer compartment
  4. Extract the filters from the accessories packaging (generally provided in separate plastic bags inside the accessories package)
  5. Remove the protective film from new filters
  6. Insert the filter or filters into the skimmer compartment checking proper orientation (handle facing up, filtering surface facing down)
  7. Gently press the filter downward until you hear the click of attachment to the lower support
  8. Verify that the filter is stable and does not lift if pulled slightly upward
  9. Close the skimmer cover
  10. Repeat the operation for the second skimmer if present

NOTE: Startup filters are ALWAYS included in the supply. The number of filters varies by model. Consult the manual for the exact number of filters provided.

4 Shell Cleanliness Verification

4.1 Visual Inspection

Before the first filling, it is essential to verify the cleanliness of the internal and external shell of the hot tub and eliminate any processing residues, dust, or foreign materials accumulated during transport.

Areas to inspect with particular attention:

  • Internal tub surface: bottom, walls, seats, headrests
  • Hydromassage jets: inside and outside
  • Suction jets: protective grilles
  • Upper edge (top rim): entire perimeter surface
  • External panel surface: cladding and corners
  • Technical compartment: floor and internal walls

4.2 Pre-Filling Cleaning Procedure

  1. Remove dust and coarse debris with a vacuum cleaner equipped with a soft brush, being careful not to scratch surfaces
  2. Prepare a solution of warm (not hot) water and neutral multipurpose detergent (dish soap type) in a 10:1 ratio
  3. Moisten a soft microfiber cloth with the well-wrung detergent solution (it should not drip)
  4. Clean all internal tub surfaces with wide circular movements, starting from top to bottom
  5. Pay particular attention to the hydromassage jets, passing the cloth all around the nozzles
  6. Clean the perimeter upper edge both on top and on the sides
  7. Rinse the cloth in clean water and pass it again over all surfaces to remove detergent residue
  8. Dry with a dry microfiber cloth to avoid streaks
  9. Repeat the operation for the external panel surfaces

WARNING: DO NOT use abrasive products, steel wool, rough sponges, or aggressive chemicals (bleach, solvents, acetone, ammonia). These products irreversibly damage acrylic or fiberglass surfaces, causing clouding, deep scratches, or cracking. Damage caused by aggressive cleaning is NOT covered by warranty.

4.3 Recommended Cleaning Products

Use exclusively:

  • Neutral multipurpose detergents (pH 6-8)
  • Specific cleaners for acrylic surfaces (available from pool dealers)
  • Gentle degreasers based on non-ionic surfactants
  • 70% isopropyl alcohol (only for removing stubborn stains, rinse immediately after)

Products to AVOID:

  • Bleach or high-concentration chlorinated products
  • Acetone, trichloroethylene, thinners, and organic solvents
  • Ammonia or ammonia-based products
  • Acidic detergents (aggressive descalers)
  • Waxes, polishes, or silicone products (make surfaces slippery)

5 Component and Accessory Verification

5.1 Standard Component List

Verify the presence of all components and accessories included in the supply by consulting the contents list (packing list) attached to the manual:

ComponentTypical QuantityNotes
Cartridge filters1-4 piecesDepending on model and capacity
Thermal cover (if purchased)1 pieceWith handles and securing straps

NOTE: The accessory kit varies depending on the model and ordered configuration. Some accessories (steps, cover lifters, etc.) are optional and not included in the standard supply. Always verify the specific packing list for your model.

5.2 Reporting Missing Components

In case of missing or damaged components:

  1. Take detailed photographs of the contents list and components received
  2. Complete the damage/shortage report form attached to the delivery note
  3. Send notification to the supplier within 5 days of delivery via email or certified email
  4. Keep all transport documentation (delivery note signed with reservation, photographs, emails)
  5. Do not proceed with installation and operation until missing components are received

WARNING: Reports of missing components made more than 7 days after delivery may not be accepted. Always verify completeness and integrity of the supply BEFORE signing the transport document without reservations.

6 Final Positioning

6.1 Moving to the Prepared Base

If the hot tub was unloaded in a temporary position, proceed with moving it to the final base using one of the following techniques:

Technique 1 - Rolling on tubes (light hot tubs up to 200 kg):

  1. Position 3-4 PVC or steel tubes 80-100 mm diameter parallel under the hot tub
  2. Slightly lift one side of the hot tub with a lever and insert the first tube
  3. Push the hot tub making it roll on the tubes
  4. Retrieve the tubes coming out from the back and reposition them in front
  5. Continue until reaching the final position

Technique 2 - Manual pallet truck (medium hot tubs 200-400 kg):

  1. If the hot tub is still on the original pallet, use a manual pallet truck
  2. Insert the pallet truck forks under the pallet
  3. Lift by operating the pallet truck lever
  4. Push the hot tub to the final position
  5. Lower gently and remove pallet truck and pallet

Technique 3 - Forklift or mobile crane (heavy hot tubs over 400 kg):

  1. Use a forklift with rubber-coated forks or mobile crane with sling
  2. Lift the hot tub keeping it perfectly horizontal
  3. Transport slowly avoiding bumps and oscillations
  4. Place gently on the prepared base
  5. Verify uniform support on all points

WARNING: Dragging can cause deep scratches, breakage of lower pipes, and damage to the supporting structure. The use of rolling or lifting systems is recommended.

6.2 Final Leveling Verification

Once the hot tub is positioned on the final base, verify leveling with a spirit level or laser level:

  1. Place the level on the upper edge of the hot tub in the longitudinal direction (long side)
  2. Verify that the bubble is perfectly centered
  3. Rotate the level 90° and verify transverse leveling (short side)
  4. Repeat the measurement at multiple points along the perimeter (minimum 4 cardinal points)
  5. Also verify diagonals to rule out structural torsion

Maximum allowable tolerance: 5 mm over the entire length. If the out-of-level is greater, proceed with base correction using:

  • Adding compacted sand in low areas (for ground/gravel bases)
  • Inserting calibrated shims under support points (for rigid concrete bases)
  • Surface rectification of the slab with self-leveling cement (for concrete bases with extensive depressions)

NOTE: Proper leveling is essential for the operation of the filtration system, for uniform load distribution on the structure, and to ensure the longevity of the hot tub. Out-of-tolerance levels cause abnormal stress on the shell, pump noise, premature bearing wear, and possible leaks.

7 Closing Side Panels

After completing internal checks and before proceeding with filling, close the side panels previously removed:

  1. Verify that no tools, packaging materials, or foreign objects remain inside the technical compartment
  2. Position the side panel aligning it with the sliding guides or screw holes
  3. Insert the panel by sliding it from bottom to top or laterally until it stops
  4. Screw in all perimeter screws tightening them in a cross sequence (alternating opposites) with moderate torque
  5. Verify that the panel is perfectly flush with adjacent panels
  6. Reposition any screw cover caps or decorative gaskets

WARNING: DO NOT over-tighten panel screws. Excessive tightening torque deforms the panel and can cause material breakage (especially on ABS or plastic panels). Tighten "hand tight" without forcing with long-lever tools.

8 Preparation for Commissioning

8.1 Checking Temporary Connections

Before the first filling, verify that at least the temporary connections necessary for testing have been completed:

  • Electrical cable laid to the technical compartment (even if not yet connected to terminals)
  • Water point reachable with garden hose
  • Drain point identified and accessible
  • Area around hot tub clear of materials and debris
  • Filters inserted in skimmers
  • Side panels closed

8.2 Documentation to Keep

Organize and keep the following documentation in a safe place:

  1. Use and maintenance manual (original)
  2. Signed transport document (delivery note)
  3. Technical data sheets

NOTE: Technical documentation is essential for any service interventions, for ordering compatible spare parts, for warranty claims, and for proper maintenance over time. Create a digital copy (scan or readable photo) and store it in the cloud or on a backup device.
