2 Electrical Safety
2.1 Electrical System Requirements
The electrical system must strictly comply with safety standards:
| Component | Mandatory Requirement | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Dedicated line | Direct cable from panel to heater | Prevents overloads |
| Magnetothermal circuit breaker | Sized for heater power | Overcurrent protection |
| Residual current device | 30 mA type A | Leakage protection |
| Grounding system | CEI 64-8 compliant | Electrocution protection |
| Cable section | According to heater power | Prevents overheating |
2.2 Mandatory Periodic Inspections
- Monthly: Visual inspection of cables, plugs, terminals for signs of overheating or damage
- Biannual: Test of residual current device by pressing "T" button
- Annual: Inspection by qualified electrician of system, grounding, protections
- Every 5 years: Complete system verification according to CEI 64-8 standard
2.3 Electrical Emergency Situations
| Situation | Immediate Action | DO NOT |
|---|---|---|
| Burnt smell | Turn off main panel, exit, call technician | Do not touch heater |
| Sparks or smoke | Disconnect power, evacuate, call firefighters if necessary | Do not use water on electrical parts |
| Electric shock | Disconnect power, do not touch person, call 118 | Do not touch with wet hands |
| RCD tripped | Do not reset, call electrician | Do not bypass protections |
| Damaged cables | Do not use sauna, call electrician | Do not repair with insulating tape |
DANGER: Never work on the electrical system without disconnecting power from the main panel. Only qualified personnel can perform repairs.
2.4 Safety Distances from Heater
Always maintain the following minimum distances from the heater:
| Element | Recommended Minimum Distance | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Rear wall | 10 cm | Air circulation, avoid overheating |
| Side walls | 20 cm | Protection from radiated heat |
| Benches | 30-40 cm | Avoid accidental user contact |
| Door | 50-70 cm | Safe passage, avoid contacts |
WARNING: Never place towels or other objects on the heater or in its immediate vicinity. Fire hazard.
3 Safe Water Use
3.1 Rules for Pouring Water
Water on stones creates instant steam at very high temperature. Follow these rules:
- Limited quantity: Maximum 2 ladles (300ml) at a time
- Safe distance: Stay away from heater when pouring
- Controlled pouring: Pour slowly, do not throw violently
- Direction: Pour in center of stones, not on edges or heating elements
- Waiting: Wait at least 5 minutes between pours
- Never directly on heating elements: Can cause thermal shock and breakage
DANGER: Generated steam instantly reaches 100°C or more. Keep face and hands away from immediate steam area.
3.2 Water and Electrical Components
- Never pour water on control panel
- Never pour water on electrical cables
- Do not touch electrical components with wet hands
- Do not wash inside of heater with water
- Do not use electric vaporizers or nebulizers
3.3 Burn Risk
| Risk Source | Temperature | Prevention |
|---|---|---|
| Lava stones | 300-400°C | Never touch, keep children away |
| Heater body | 80-150°C | Minimum distance 50 cm |
| Immediate steam | 100°C+ | Distance 1 meter when pouring water |
| Heating elements | 400-500°C | Never touch, never pour direct water |
| Metal parts | 60-80°C | Always use towel as protection |
WARNING: In case of burn, immediately cool the area with cold running water for 10-15 minutes. If severe, consult doctor.
4 Safety for Children and Elderly
4.1 Children
Children can use the sauna only with strict precautions:
| Age | Allowed | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| 0-3 years | NO | Thermoregulation system not developed |
| 4-6 years | Not recommended | Only with favorable pediatrician, constant supervision |
| 7-12 years | ✓ With precautions | Adult supervision, reduced temperatures, short times |
| 13+ years | ✓ Yes | Supervision recommended, education in correct use |
Rules for Children (7-12 years):
- Always with supervision of responsible adult
- Maximum temperature 60-70°C (never above 75°C)
- Maximum duration 5-8 minutes (never beyond 10 minutes)
- Position on lower bench (coolest area)
- Educate not to touch heater and not to pour water
- Exit immediately if child shows discomfort
- Mandatory hydration before and after
- Prior pediatric consultation in case of pathologies
DANGER: Never leave children unattended in sauna, not even for a few seconds. Risk of burns, dehydration, loss of consciousness.

6 Emergencies and First Aid
6.1 Fainting in Sauna
Emergency Procedure:
- Immediately turn off heater
- Fully open door
- If possible, transport person outside to cool environment
- Lay down with legs elevated 30 cm
- Loosen tight clothing
- If conscious, give water in small sips
- If unconscious, check breathing and immediately call 118
- If not breathing, start cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Never leave person alone until arrival of rescuers
6.2 Heat Stroke
Symptoms:
- Body temperature >40°C
- Hot and dry skin (sweating absent)
- Mental confusion
- Rapid and shallow breathing
- Rapid and weak pulse
- Possible loss of consciousness
Intervention:
- Immediately call 118
- Move to cool environment
- Cool gradually with damp cloths (not ice)
- If conscious, give cool water to drink
- Ventilate
- Monitor constantly until arrival of rescuers
DANGER: Heat stroke is a potentially fatal medical emergency. Do not underestimate.
6.3 Fire
Procedure:
- Immediately evacuate all occupants
- Disconnect power from main panel if possible to do safely
- Close sauna door to limit oxygen
- Call fire department (115)
- If small and controllable fire, use CO2 or powder extinguisher (NEVER water on electrical parts)
- If fire spreads, evacuate building
WARNING: Always keep an appropriate extinguisher (class ABC or CO2) near the sauna.
7 Emergency Numbers
| Service | Number | When to Call |
|---|---|---|
| Medical emergency | 118 | Illness, fainting, heat stroke, medical emergencies |
| Fire Department | 115 | Fire, smoke, persistent burnt smell |
| Single Emergency Number | 112 | Any emergency |
| Poison Control Center | 02 66101029 | Toxic fume inhalation, poisoning |
WARNING: In case of doubt, always call 118. A false alarm is better than underestimating a situation.
